COMMUNITY GROUPS

New networking group hosts speakers and masquerade ball

On a Thursday evening in August, a group of people gathered at Nighttown Restaurant in Cleveland Heights. Cocktails were prepared, some business cards exchanged, then dinner served. At 8:30 p.m., the group of 64 quieted to listen to the evening speaker.

What might have been easily mistaken for a gathering of the local Chamber of Commerce was in fact the newly-formed organization called Insight, a personal and professional networking organization serving the gay, lesbian and bisexual community.

Insight, billed as Cleveland's premier alternative networking organization was founded in January of 1995 by Steven Daris and Ernie Goldstein.

"We wanted an alternative to the bar scene" said Goldstein, “and we wanted to focus on the positive advancement of the lesbian, gay and bisexual community."

The mission of Insight is to promote edu-

cation through a series of speakers at monthly dinners, foster the growth and development of the community through fund raisers and special events, and offer a nonpolitical environment which presents professional and social networking opportunities.

With a mailing list of over 240, attendance of the dinners grows with each monthly gathering. Dinners are held each month at various Cleveland area restaurants. Those wanting to make reservations may call Insight's voice mail at 216-556-0576.

On October 21, Insight will host its first annual Masquerade Charity Ball. Recipient organizations of this benefit are the Cleveland Lesbian Gay Center, the African American Caucus, the AIDS Housing Council, Women's Center of Greater Cleveland and the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland. Reservations are limited, so please call 216556-0576.
